Katie Laine owned Discover Consulting
Katie Laine passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 13, 2023. Katie had a long battle with a rare lung disease.
Kathryn (Katie) Lenore Myers Laine was born on October 2, 1947 in Bluffton, Ohio to George, Sr. Myers and Eleanor Keeney Myers. Katie’s siblings are George, Suzanne, Barbara, Michael (deceased 1972), Joe, Eric, and Julie; she was close to all of their spouses, children and relatives.
Katie grew up in San Marcos, Texas, then moved to Ohio, where she spent her junior high and high school years. She graduated from Bluffton High School in 1966.
She was a good student, a cheerleader, and a Junior Miss pageant winner. For college, Katie moved to Texas and attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). She graduated from Southwest Texas State University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in History and a minor in English on 05/28/1970.
Katie volunteered and led ‘Divorce Recovery’ and ‘Singleness classes with Dr. Larry Miller. She eventually developed her own communication courses, seminars, and workshops, originally for graduates of the ‘Miller Time’ groups and those evolved into communication courses for companies. Katie Laine Communications then became Discover Consulting. She had many titles, ‘Certified Executive Coach’, ‘Communication Specialist’, and ‘trained Mediator’. Katie helped individuals, teams and organizations create a shift from results they’re ‘putting up with’ to results they dream of having. She was an incredible communicator who was able to ask insightful questions to help folks lead genuine, authentic lives.
Katie had many adventures, including being on the state committee for the visit of Queen Elizabeth II: She led her around the Texas Capitol. She also created, produced and hosted a weekly television program featuring well-known personalities, called ‘Dimensions of the Heart’.
Katie was married to Don Laine in 1973 in Austin, Texas. Their son Brett Edward Laine was born on January 13, 1975. Brett and his wife Monica, and their daughter Abigail, live in Austin.
Katie married Tom Wolf in 2011. They have lived in Austin, where Tom is a computer programmer. Tom was devoted to Katie and never left her side while keeping hope alive the last few months and years.
A celebration of life for Katie will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Onion Creek Club, 2510 Onion Creek Pkwy, Onion Creek, Texas 78747.
