Jo Ann L. Bassett was a teacher
Jo Ann L. Bassett, 91, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on April 16, 2023 at her residence. She was born August 9, 1931 in Lima to the late Harold and Alma (Snyder) Vore. On August 1, 1954 she married James H. Bassett who survives her.
She graduated from Beaverdam High School in 1949 and from Bluffton College in 1953 with a degree in Education.
She taught second grade at Beaverdam Elementary School for five years and substituted at Bath and various Christian schools for a number of years. She was baptized at and a long-term member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren. She loved music and was an organist, accompanist and vocalist for over 50 years. She was active in Women's Aglow Fellowship and in recent years she attended Union Chapel Missionary Church. Her love for children extended to those she worked with at church, as well as to her own children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Bassett; three children, Scott (Ruth) Bassett, Steve (Carol) Baskauf, and Susan Bassett Snyder; six grandchildren, Drew Snyder, Sarah Snyder, Abby (Brandon) Riley, Carmen Baskauf, Jessie Baskauf, and Lydia Bassett and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Brooklyn Snyder.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Thornberry and a granddaughter, Katie Bassett.
Jo Ann’s services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Union Chapel Missionary Church, Lima with Pastors Allen Sudmann and Mark Bayliff officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2023 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
