Beaver record set at Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet
BEREA--The Bluffton University men's track and field team sent seven Beavers to Berea for the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet on Friday, May 12, 2023. Several superb performances, including a school record, were on the menu at Baldwin Wallace University.
Kicking off the afternoon with a school-record 14.33 in the 110-meter hurdles was none other than Desmond Gist (Detroit, Mich./Trenton) who already held the school mark with a 14.46! Gist ran a 14.48, nearly breaking his record in the prelims, then he put the hammer down, resulting in a time that has him 13th in the country!
Next up for the Purple and White were the high jump tandem of Kyle Manns (Ottoville) and Joey Bonham (Vanlue). Manns was unable to secure a height, but Bonham cleared 1.96 meters and just missed out at 2.01 meters, establishing a new PR for the talented sophomore who also plays basketball for the Beavers.
The 4 X 400 unit of Blayden McCoy (Fresno/Ridgewood), Simon Shawk (Galion), Russell Lough (Wintersville/Indian Creek) and Jayden McConnell (Sunbury/Big Walnut) shaved four seconds off its HCAC gold-medal time, running a 3:19.6 on Friday night!
Alliance, Ohio, is the next stop for Bluffton track and field as the Beavers will compete at the Mount Union Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 18.
