By Paula Scott
While the Bluffton Schools are busy wrapping up the 2022-2023 school year, the Board of Education has been busy interviewing candidates for a new middle school principal to start August 1, 2023.
On Wednesday, May 10, the board approved a 3-year contract with Doug Westrick, who is currently the superintendent of Delphos City Schools.
Westrick has spent 10 years at Delphos Schools as Middle School Principal and then as School District Superintendent. He has also worked at Bryan City Schools, Swanton Local Schools, Lima City Schools, and New Paris National Trail Local Schools. His experience includes teaching health and physical education, as well as coaching.
He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Findlay and a Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University.
Westrick and wife Melanie will celebrate their 20th anniversary in October. Their sons are Alex and Jaren. Both Doug and Melanie are from Ottawa Glandorf.
Westrick told the Icon he was “excited to have been selected and thanked the board and administrative team” for this opportunity.
