Pirates volleyball, soccer, golf recap

VOLLEYBALL
The Bluffton High School volleyball team lost in three straight sets at non-league foe Shawnee Monday evening, August 21.
The Indians won 25-18, 25-13, 25-13. Kelly Cooper hit for 15 kills, while Addie Maxwell doled out 36 assists and Grace Freiberger mustered up 19 digs.
Last Saturday, Bluffton opened its season with a five-set win at Kalida.
After winning the first two sets the Pirates staved off a Wildcat comeback to win the marathon match 25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 11-25, 15-9.
Kendall Stackhouse and Ayla Grandey led the victors with 10 kills apiece. Grandey also served four aces. Setter Gracie Yarnell dished out 21 assists, while libero Avery Talavinia came up with 24 digs.
The Pirate girls (1-1) host local rival Pandora-Gilboa Thursday, August 24.
BOYS GOLF
The Bluffton High School boys golf team finished second in a close three-team Northwest Conference match Monday, August 21, at Pike Run Golf Course.
Leipsic took first with 181 strokes, followed by the Pirates (189) and Crestview (194).
Viking ace Brevin Brandt was match medalist with a nine-hole score of 39.
Bluffton (5-2 NWC) visits Arlington at Sycamore Springs Golf Course Wednesday, August 23.
GIRLS GOLF
The Bluffton High School girls golf team lost a dual match to Bellefontaine at the Bluffton Golf Course Monday, August 21.
The Pirates lost by a score of 195 strokes to 263.
Bellefontaine’s Abby Buffkin was match medalist with a score of 47.
BOYS SOCCER
The Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost 3-0 to Tree of Life this past Saturday evening, August 19, at Steinmetz Field.
The Pirate boys (0-2) play Sylvania Southview Thursday evening, August 24 in the Elida Classic Tournament semifinals.
Bluffton will play in the tournament finals or third-place game, against either Elida or Botkins, on Saturday evening, August 26.
