The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team jumped ahead early and held off Van Buren to post a 2-1 win Wednesday evening, September 7.
The Pirates improved to 2-3-1 with the victory. VB dropped to 3-4 after the defeat.
Pirate Jackson Brauen tallied the game’s first goal in the 22nd minute. Three minutes later, Theo Andreas then doubled the lead to 2-0 on a goal off an Ollie Combs assist.
Bluffton led 2-0 at intermission and held that margin 24 minutes into the second half. Black Knight Adam Laparay then scored in the 64th minute to edge VB within a goal.
But the Pirate defense held the Black Knights scoreless over the final 16 minutes to preserve the win.
Bluffton placed nine of its 19 shots on goal. Van Buren also got off 19 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
Bluffton’s Truett Diller made nine saves. The VB keeper was credited with six saves.
The Pirates host Liberty-Benton Saturday evening on the pitch of Steinmetz Field at 6:55 p.m.
