Pirate swimmers open season with quad win

OTTAWA- The Bluffton High School girls swim team dove into its season with a three-match sweep in a four-team meet at the Putnam County YMCA Thursday evening in Ottawa.
In its closest combined team result, Bluffton beat Ada 72-59. The Pirates stomped McComb 90-8, and defeated Bath 92-39 to go 3-0 in combined meet scoring.
The Bluffton girls went 3-0 on the evening. They beat the Ada Bulldogs, 53-28. The Pirate girls also shut out McComb 69-0, and whipped Bath 69-10.
The Pirate boys went 1-2. The Ada team beat Bluffton 31-19, but the Pirates rebounded to beat McComb 21-8. Bath edged the Bluffton boys, 29-23.
Pirate Charles Wright won the boys 50 freestyle in 25.58.
Pirate Jenna Downey won the girls 50 free (26.04), and touched first in the 100 butterfly (63.89).
Makenna Mohr captured the girls 100 free in a time of 67.17.
Other first-place Pirate girl winners were Zoe Shank in the 500 free (7:13.15), and Kari Diller in the 100 backstroke (67.95).
Bluffton girl quartets also won the 200 medley relay (2:04.24), and touched first in the 400 relay (4:36.4).
