Pirates Grandey, Donaldson and Sommers earn district hoop honors

BLUFFTON – Three Bluffton High School senior basketball standouts earned all-district honors in voting recently conducted by the District 8 Basketball Coaches Association.
Senior center Ayla Grandey was selected to play for the Red team in the girls District 8 All-Star Game Sunday, March 30 in the Elida Fieldhouse at 6:30 p.m.
Grandey was named first team All-District 8 for Divs. I-V. She led Bluffton in scoring and rebounds. The Pirates girls basketball team ended up 13-10.
Ottawa-Glandorf’s Karsyn Erford was voted District 8 girls Player of the Year for those five divisions.
Bluffton seniors Marek Donaldson and Blake Sommers were both named second team All-District 8 for Div. VI. The high-scoring duo paced the Pirate boys basketball team to a 15-7 regular season record.
Wren Sheets of Crestview was tabbed District 8 Div. VI Player of the Year.
Ada’s Darren Gilbert was named District 8 Div. VI boys Assistant Coach of the Year.
