Claude Campbell served in the U.S. Naval Reserves
Claude Campbell, 97, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. He was born in Port Allegany, PA on April 11, 1927, to the late Claude Abither Campbell and Laura (Hatt) Campbell.
His siblings, all deceased, were Jack Campbell, Helen Prindible and Shirley Henry. His wife, June preceded him in death in 2019 after 70 years of marriage. Claude is survived by his son Dan (Judi) of Port Allegany, PA and his daughter Holly (Lon) Diehl of Fort Wayne, IN. He had four grandchildren: Meghan, Maureen, Matthew and Kari along with ten great-grandchildren.
Claude retired from GTE Sylvania (later Philips ECG North America), working initially in Emporium, PA but in the Ottawa, OH facility beginning in 1972. After his retirement in 1986 he worked for Suter’s Produce in Pandora for seven years picking strawberries, driving trucks and manning produce stands around the Pandora area. He and June lived in Florida for a few years before moving back to the mountains of north-central PA for a few years. Health concerns eventually prompted their move back to northwest Ohio where they became part of Bluffton’s Mennonite Home Community.
Claude was a veteran of the United States Naval Reserves, serving in Pensacola, FL near the end of WWII. He enjoyed golfing and bowling in his younger days but more recently loved watching baseball, particularly the Pittsburgh Pirates, Reds and Guardians. He had a very sharp mind to the end of his life, showed interest in other people, was very patient, slow to anger and was always ready to lend a hand if possible.
If desired, memorials can be made to either: Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio at 410 W. Elm Street, Bluffton, Ohio 45817 or to Bridge Hospice Care Center of Findlay at 1900 S. Main Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
There will be no services at this time.
