Pirate baseball loss to Carey

BLUFFTON __ The visiting Carey baseball team beat Bluffton 7-1 to win their non-league battle Friday evening, April 11.
The Pirates fell to 2-4 with the defeat. The Blue Devils improved to 3-3.
Carey only out-hit the Pirates 6-5, but took advantage of three errors to score three unearned runs.
Nathan Speicher singled and scored the lone Bluffton run on an RBI hit by Luke Jebsen in the third inning. Robby Taylor, Landen Worcester and Jake Weaver added the other Pirate singles.
Carey jumped in front 3-0 with two runs in the top of the first and one in the second. Single Devil runs in the fifth and sixth, and two more runs in the seventh provided the final margin of victory.
Senior Keaton Howbert started and pitched four innings for Bluffton. He gave up three hits but only one earned run. He struck out six and walked three.
Sophomore Marshall McDonald hurled the final three innings in relief. He allowed three hits, three earned runs and three walks with one whiff.
Bluffton plays at Genoa Area (0-1) Saturday at noon. They host McComb (0-4) April 15.
