Pirate softball loss at Delphos

DELPHOS - The visiting Bluffton High School girls softball team lost 8-3 to Northwest Conference rival Delphos Jefferson on Thursday, April 16.
The Pirate girls drop to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the NWC with the loss. Delphos Jefferson improved to 9-4 and 3-0 in NWC play after the win.
The Wildcat girls led only 1-0 after four innings of play. But the hosts broke it open with a five-run fifth frame. DJ added two runs in the sixth to build an 8-0 cushion.
The Pirate girls tallied three runs in the seventh, but fell well short.
Bluffton was only out-hit by DJ 4-3. But the Wildcats capitalized on six Pirate errors and four walks.
Peyton Worcester hurled a six-inning complete game for the Pirates. She scattered 11 hits and allowed five earned runs. She walked four and struck out three.
Worcester aided her own cause with a two-run single in the top of the seventh. She then scored on a single by Jessa Swank.
Bluffton’s Emma Green and Reis Thompson each slapped singles. Danielle Cross and Greta Meyer tallied a run apiece.
Carolyn Mueller slugged a double, two singles and scored twice to pace DJ. Emma Kunz also hit a double and single and scored twice.
The Pirates committed six errors, while DJ made two miscues. The Wildcats stranded eight runners, and Bluffton left five on base.
