Bluffton softball edged in battle of Pirates

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls softball team lost a 2-1 pitcher’s duel to visiting non-conference foe Continental on Friday evening, May 2.
The visiting Pirates scored a run in the first inning to take an early lead. Bluffton tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Continental broke the tie by pushing across the winning run in the sixth.
The Pirate girls dropped to 2-10 overall with the tight loss. Continental improved to 10-6 after the win.
Bluffton was out-hit by the visitors in the pitching-dominated battle, 4-2.
Emma Green hit a double and singled to provide both Bluffton hits and drove in one run. Greta Meyer stole a base and scored the lone run.
Pirate pitcher Peyton Worcester hurled seven innings and gave up just four hits in a complete-game effort. She allowed no earned runs while walking one with four strikeouts.
Gracie Homier gave up just two hits and one walk, while striking out a dozen. She allowed no earned runs.
The hosts stranded four runners, while the visitors left three on base.
