Pirate baseballs shuts out Arcadia in twin bill

BLUFFTON – Strong pitching was on display as the Bluffton High School baseball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Arcadia Saturday, 7-0 and 5-0.
Pirate pitching blanked the Redskins for all 14 innings of the twin bill, allowing just five hits in two games.
The shutout victories lifted the Pirate season record to 10-11. Arcadia fell to 7-12 after the defeats.
In the opener, Bluffton scored four runs in the third inning to break up a scoreless game. The Pirates added three more runs in the fifth to win going away, 7-0.
Quinn Eachus hurled a three-hit shutout over seven innings to earn the win. He struck out seven and walked three.
He aided his own cause at the plate and on the bases as well. Eachus stroked two hits, scored a run and drove one in. He stole three of the five bases Bluffton swiped.
Bluffton out-hit Arcadia, 10-3.
Luke Jebsen enjoyed a 3-3 batting game with a double. Landen Worcester slugged a two-run double. Robby Taylor singled in a run and scored once.
Keaton Howbert drew three of the nine walks Redskin pitching issued. He scored one run.

In the nightcap, Robby Taylor hurled another complete game shutout, allowing just two hits in a 5-0 Pirate win. Taylor also doubled and hit a single.
The Pirates scored a run in the second inning, then plated three more scores in the fifth frame to take a 4-0 lead. The victors tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Nathan Speicher contributed two runs, two walks and a single.
Eachus singled twice, scored a run and drove one in. Blayne Hill hit an RBI single. Worcester singled and scored a run. Jebsen singled and stole a base.
Worcester, Hill, Eachus and Dylan Painter also swiped one bag apiece.
The Pirates out-hit the Redskins 8-2 and coaxed three walks while also stealing five bases.
Losing pitcher Nolan Martinez hurled five innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He struck out three and walked three. Martinez also hit a double and singled to provide both Redskin hits.
