Pirate softball falls to O-G rally in sectionals

OTTAWA – The visiting Bluffton High School girls softball team lost to Ottawa-Glandorf 8-6 in the completion of a suspended Div. V sectional final battle on Thursday evening, May 15.
The Pirate girls led 6-4 when the game was suspended by rain Wednesday night. O-G was batting in the home half of the sixth with two outs and the bases loaded when play was stopped.
When the game resumed Thursday, the Titans pushed four crucial two-out runs across the plate. O-G scored six runs in the home half of the sixth to pull off the rally and win.
Bluffton fell to 5-12 overal1 with the tough defeat.
O-G improved to 8-11 with the comeback victory. The Titans advance to the district semifinals to face top seed Bloomdale Elmwood (15-7), who won the Blanchard Valley Conference with a 10-0 record, in the district semifinals at Patrick Henry Wednesday, May 21 at 2 p.m.
The Pirates scored all six of their runs in the top of the second inning after O-G plated two runs in the first frame.
Bluffton was out-hit by the Titans, 11-3. The Pirates drew three walks and made only one error, compared to three miscues by O-G, which also coaxed three walks.
Macy Schaadt scored a run and drove one in. She was hit by a pitch once.
Karleigh Davis walked and contributed one run batted in.
Adelyn Althaus stroked a two-run single. Greta Meyer was hit by a pitch, scored a run and had one RBI.
Danielle Cross rapped out two singles. Camryn Fruchey was hit by a pitch twice.
Pirate pitcher Peyton Worcester was almost out of trouble in the sixth before the Titans added on four runs with two out to take the lead for good.
Worcester hurled six innings and scattered 11 hits as she allowed eight earned runs. She struck out four and walked three. She also scored a run.
Addie Kitchen was the winning hurler. She pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks. She also struck out three.
Titan Abby Giesige doubled and drove in three runs, while Maci Hovest singled twice, scored two runs and had two RBI. Hailey Meyer legged out two triples, singled, scored twice and had one RBI. Morgan Miller batted 3-3 with a run scored.
O-G stranded six runners, while the Pirates left six on base.
