Nelson Koogler, 71, passed away August 13, 2025, at Mercy Health-St. Rita's Medical Center.
Nelson was born April 4, 1954 in Lima, Ohio, to James and Margaret (Hefner) Koogler who preceded him in death. On April 10, 1976 he married Sharon (Spallinger) Koogler who survives.
Nelson was a 1973 graduate of Allen East High School and was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church in Bluffton. He became the owner and operator of Koogler Refuse Service Inc. in March of 1979. Nelson loved to sing and was a member of the Lima Beane Choir. He also enjoyed his time as a chaplain at the Second Chance Chapel in Beaverdam and cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all, Nelson loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Sharon Koogler of Beaverdam; three children, Nathan (Holly) Koogler of Brentwood, TN, Jaime (Jeff) Combs of Bluffton, and Aaron (Emily) Koogler of Bluffton; eight grandchildren, Cole and Beau Koogler of Brentwood, TN, Logan and Faith Combs of Bluffton, and Titus, Kinzi, Gunner, and Tessa Koogler of Bluffton; one brother, Kenneth Koogler of Lima; a sister-in-law, Kywana Koogler of Belle Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross Koogler and James Koogler; and a sister in law, Roz Koogler.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Ebenezer Mennonite Church in Bluffton with pastors David Glick and Dick Potter officiating. A private burial will be in Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 22, 2025 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 a.m., both at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Second Chance Chapel or Ebenezer Mennonite Church.
