Obituary for Ian Christopher Shriner
Ian Shriner sadly left our world on Tuesday, August 5, in Burke, Virginia. He was born July 31, 1983, in Durham, North Carolina. His parents are John (Joann) Shriner of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Elizabeth Kelly (Ray Person) of Bluffton, Ohio.
Ian graduated from Cookeville (TN) High School and the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) with a major in Marine Biology. He was a committed Superfan of the UNCW Seahawks baseball team and known for rallying up the fans in the stands. He volunteered his time with the Special Olympics and Miracle Field baseball.
Ian married his best friend, Kimberly Anne (nee Graham), who shared a commitment to preserving natural habitats for all species and stewardship of creation. Together, they nurtured their son, developing Jackson’s love for the ocean and natural world.
Ian’s logical perception and ability to be grounded in situations made him a good friend and confidant. Ian’s memory will be a guiding star for all who knew him.
Ian is survived by his wife Kimberly, son Jackson Owen, parents, and brother, Peter Shriner. He will be deeply missed by a network of friends, family, and Seahawks fans.
In remembrance, we will be hosting Celebrations of Life at a future date.
