Pirate boys soccer shuts out Wapakoneta

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School boys soccer team blanked visiting Wapakoneta 3-0 in a non-league match on Saturday evening, August 30 at Steinmetz Field.
Bluffton improved to 2-2-1 with the victory. Wapak fell to 2-4-1 after the defeat.
Bluffton’s Calvin Derstine scored two goals to pace the victors.
His first netter came in the 12th minute on an assist by August. The Pirates carried that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Seven minutes into the second half, Derstine tallied again off an assist by Ollie Combs to provide a 2-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Combs found the back of the net via an Ethan Hoffman assist to put the game out of reach.
Bluffton also won the junior varsity match by the same 3-0 score.
The Pirates play at non-league foe Van Buren (2-2) Tuesday, September 2. Bluffton then plays at Ottoville (4-1) on Sept. 4.
