Calvin “Cal” Vernon Oppermann was an educator
Calvin “Cal” Vernon Oppermann, age 80, of Plymouth, WI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family on August 30, 2025 at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Center.
He was born on September 16, 1944 in Bluffton, Ohio, a son of the late Vernon and Julia (Schroer) Oppermann.
Calvin graduated from Bluffton High School in Ohio. He then went on to attend Lakeland College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
On August 4, 1984, he married Wendy Lou Pascoe at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Appleton, WI.
Cal worked for many years as a teacher and principal in the Sheboygan Falls School District, where he took on the roles of drama, wrestling, and football coach. For much of his working life, Calvin worked as a financial planner for Principal Financial Group where he acted as a Certified Financial Planner, a Registered Employee Benefits Consultant, Registered Health Underwriter and a Registered Financial Educator.
He was an active member of the Elks Club and Lions Club International. He loved his family dearly. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and listener who gave great advice. He loved Jesus, his family, his life and his country. He was very involved in Steven’s ministry with his wife Wendy throughout the years. He will always be remembered for his love of Jesus, history, sports, card games, dogs, horses, cars, tools, fishing, camping in style and his incredible memory.
Calvin is survived by: his loving wife, Wendy Lou Oppermann; daughter Christine (nee Oppermann) (Cortney) Houston and their daughter Zoe; daughter Robin (Greg) Voeller and their children Alexis, Braden and Davis; son, Robert Neta Jr. and his son Zenon; brother Daryl (Beth) Oppermann; step-brother Dennis (Joan) Gable; and step-sister Janice (Gary) Althaus; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents Vernon Oppermann and Julia Gable; step-father Karl Gable; and his brother James Oppermann.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at St. John’s UCC, 223 W College Ave, Bluffton, OH from 10:00-11:00 a.m.; with the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., followed by food and fellowship. Rev. Jeremy Mann will officiate.
