Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, September 21. The services, at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m., will give praise to the Lord for saving the lives of passengers on the “Famous Dove” when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on September 17, 1831.

During a terrible storm, the passengers prayed and sang hymns. The next morning, they saw that they were just off the coast of Virginia. They left the wrecked ship and safely reached land. They promised to observe September 17 in thanks to God, to the third and fourth generations, this being the 194th year.

Many of the passengers coming from Germany were the founders of Trinity and many fourth through seventh generation descendants are members today. The account of the Shipwreck will be read during the service and Choir will sing “House of Grace.”

The Bible readings are Job 38:1-11 and Acts 27:13-26.  Vicar Kelvin Johannes, guest preacher from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay, will base his sermon on Mark 4:35-41 under the theme, "Jesus Controls it All." Hymns are "Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me"; "Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor"; "All Depends on Our Possessing"; "If God Himself Be For Me"; and "A Vicious Storm, A Raging Sea."   

Sunday School and Bible Classes for all ages will be held at 9:20 a.m. The service can be found livestreamed at 8:00 a.m. and archived for later viewing at www.tlcjenera.org.
