George "Sam" S. Hager was a farmer
George "Sam" S. Hager, 88, passed away September 28, 2025, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
Sam was born September 12, 1937 in Lima to Oliver and Martha (Mougey) Hager who preceded him in death. On June 8, 1958 he married Shirley Mae (Bales) Hager who survives.
He was a 1955 graduate of Lafayette-Jackson High School. He worked as a technician at P&G Products for 26 years and was a life-long farmer. He met the love of his life, Shirley, through square dancing and they continued to share their love for 67 years. Sam was a member of the Farm Bureau Council Number 27 and was a life-long member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren. He loved to play golf and enjoyed cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed playing cards and traveling with their special group of friends. Above all, he loved his family, and especially loved cheering them on at their various activities.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mae Hager of Lima; three children, Lorrie Hager of Dayton, Todd (Julie) Hager of Lima, and Matthew (Candy) Hager of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Bryan (Angeleca) Hager of Lima, Jacob (Tabitha) Hager of Lima, Forrest Hager of Cleveland, Hannah (Reilly Schultz) Hager of Columbus; five great-grandchildren, Winston, Louis, and Oliver Hager of Lima and Gwendolyn and Theodore Hager of Lima; two siblings, Bob (Judy) Hager of Elida and Judy Crews of Columbus; and a sister-in-law, Doris Hager of DeGraff.
He was preceded in death by: a brother, Fred Hager and brother in law, Frank Crews.
Services will be held Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren with Pastor James Washington to officiate the service. Burial will be in Lewis Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services - Bluffton, and on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Church of the Brethren
