Pirate wrestling competes at Coldwater tourney

COLDWATER–The Bluffton High School wrestling team finished 16th at the 22-team Coldwater Cavalier tournament on Saturday, December 13. (See Meet the Bluffton Pirates wrestling teams)
Indianapolis Cathedral won the tournament with 326.5 points. Bluffton finished 16th with 66.5 points.
Two Pirate grapplers placed in the top five of their individual weight brackets.
MASON SHANK
Pirate junior Mason Shank finished third in the heavyweight division. Shank decisively won all four of his pool play matches by pin in under a minute, and advanced to the tournament stage undefeated.
As the champion of Pool D, he lost in the semifinals to Pool C champ senior Breese Bollenbacher of Van Wert by a 6-0 decision.
In the third-place bout, Shank bounced back to capture a 9-4 decision over Coldwater sophomore Carter Heitkamp and finish 5-1 on the day.
MICAH REHM
Bluffton senior Micah Rehm finished fifth in the 150 lbs. division after going 5-1 at the tournament. He posted a 3-1 record in preliminary Pool D action to finish second and advance to the tourney stage.
He then won his consolation semifinal tournament match to advance to the fifth-place bout, which he also won by pin in just 40 seconds over sophomore Brandt Beaverson of Bowling Green.
MORE RESULTS
Sophomore Jesus Rivera went 2-2 at the 190 lbs. division to finish third in Pool D. Only the top two in pool play advanced to the knockout stage.
Pirate Titus Koogler went 1-2 with a pin at the 126 lbs. bracket.
Freshman Hunter Beasley posted a 1-3 record with one pin in the 138 lbs. division.
Freshman Parker Kimmel was 1-3 with a pin at 157 lbs.
Bluffton is slated to wrestle in the Allen County Invitational at Bath Saturday, Dec. 20.
