Downey, Bowlus, Verb pace Pirate swim team at Holiday invitational

Pirate boys place 6th, girls 10th

LIMA – The Bluffton High School swim teams hosted and fared well at the annual Holiday Swim Invitational at the Lima YMCA on Tuesday, December 30.

Bryan captured the boys team championship with 317 points. Findlay came in second with 291 points, while Shawnee scored 235 and St. Marys tallied 226.

The Bluffton boys came in a solid sixth out of 24 teams at the day-long meet with 163.5 points.

Ottawa-Glandorf won the girls team title with 322 points. St. Marys was a distant second with 212 points, followed by Shawnee at 204.

The Bluffton girls came in 10th out of 21 teams with 119 points.

BOYS RESULTS
Pirate freshman Camden Verb won the 500 freestyle race by 13.11 seconds in a time of 5:12.56. Verb also finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (61.9).

Senior Jackson Bowlus touched first in the 100 backstroke in 54.57. Bowlus also took second in the 50 free (22.43).

Aaron Ungashick ended up sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:21.37).

The Pirate boys quartet finished fourth in the 400 free relay (3:55.76). Another Bluffton quartet took fourth in the boys 200 medley relay (1:49.98).

GIRLS RESULTS
Pirate senior ace Jenna Downey won the girls 50-yard freestyle in 25.62. Downey also touched fourth in the 100 free (56.74).

Sophomore Kari Diller finished fifth in the 200 free in 2:19.96. She also came in fifth in the 100 backstroke (67.49).

The Pirate girls quartet finished third in the 200 medley relay (2:03.05).
