MEDIA RELEASE__Trinity Lutheran School, 105 Allen Street, Jenera, is welcoming two new teachers. 

Katherine Reinke will teach preschool and pre-kindergarten and also teach music for grades 3- 8.  She and her husband Robert, who is the new vicar at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay, for a year, moved to Jenera from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her hobbies include building LEGO flowers, reading, playing Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch and being outside.

LIMA__The Bluffton High School boys golf team shot well to win a soggy Northwest Conference triangular match at The Oaks Golf Club on Tuesday, August 18.

The Pirates prevailed by shooting a low team score of 172. Lima Central Catholic was 19 strokes behind at 191. Spencerville finished a distant third at 261 shots.

Bluffton’s Caleb Fifer earned match medalist honors by firing a nine-hole score of 39. 

With the decisive wins, the Pirates improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the NWC. The team is coached by Richard Streicher.

OTTOVILLE__The visiting Bluffton High School volleyball team lost a four-set match at Ottoville in their season opener Tuesday.

The match was tied at one set apiece after the Pirates took set two, but the hosts pulled away to win the final two close games.

The Big Green captured the close match 25-20, 14-25, 25-20 and 25-22.

Karlie Lora and Camryn Fruchey each slammed 11 kills to pace the Pirates.

Taylin Goldman knocked down nine kills. Lainey Grandey contributed seven kills to the balanced Bluffton attack.

LIMA__The visiting Bluffton High School girls tennis team lost 5-0 at powerhouse Shawnee on Tuesday, August 18.

The Pirate girls dropped to 2-1 after suffering their first loss of the season.

Shawnee won all five matches without dropping a set as the dominant Indians lost only three of 63 games.

Bluffton is back in action on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at St. Marys.

WAPAKONETA__The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost a 1-0 defensive battle to a strong Wapakoneta squad in a non-league showdown on Tuesday night, August 18.

Wapak improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Pirate girls start out 0-1.

The Redskins scored the game’s only goal in the eighth minute. Wapakoneta freshman Maddy Herbst found the back of the net on an assist from Aubrey Prenger with 32:34 remaining in the first half.
