Ten Pirate swimmers qualify for 2026 district meet
Bowlus wins 2 races

LIMA__The Bluffton High School swim teams fared well in the Div. II sectionals at the Lima YMCA on Saturday, February 14.
Ten Pirates qualified to district competition in individual events, and three Bluffton relay teams also made it to the Bowling Green district in relay events.
BOYS RESULTS
Pirate senior ace Jackson Bowlus touched first in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.47, beating out 60 swimmers. He also out-swam the 32-swimmer field in the 100 backstroke (54.15) to touch first.
Freshman Camden Verb finished second in the grueling 500 freestyle (5:05.51), and he also took third in the 200 freestyle (1:55.23).
Junior Aaron Ungashick took fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:07.41), and came in sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.82).
Max Fritsch qualified in the 500 free, placing 26th with a time of 5:37:75.
The Bluffton boys relay quartet took fourth in the 400 free relay (3:32.28). The Pirate male 200 medley relay team also came in fourth (1:44.96).
GIRLS RESULTS
Senior Jenna Downey finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.88.
Sophomore Kari Diller took third in the 100 backstroke (63.85), and she touched sixth in the 100 free (59.19).
Junior Karden Geiser took ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.67), while freshman Madelyn Sterrett finished close behind her in 11th (1:19.51).
The Pirate girls 200 free relay foursome finished sixth in 1:50.85. The Bluffton girls 200 medley relay quartet also came in sixth (1:59.38).
ABOUT DISTRICT MEET
Pirate swimmers who qualified for the Bowling Green district meet on Friday, Feb. 20 are listed below, with seeding.
Individual events have 32 qualifiers, plus two alternates in case of injury or illness. Relays have 24 qualifying teams and two alternate squads. Seeds are by times.
Downey is seeded fourth in the district 50 free; Geiser is 29th.
Diller is seeded fifth in the 100 backstroke, and is 17th in the 100 freestyle.
Geiser is seeded 23rd in the 100 breaststroke; Sterrett is seeded 26th.
The Pirate girls 200 free relay team is seeded 13th. The Bluffton girls 200 medley relay quartet is seeded 10th.
Bowlus is seeded second in the 50 free and second in the 100 backstroke.
Verb is seeded fifth in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 free.
Ungashick is seeded 10th in the 200 IM and 15th in the 100 breaststroke.
