Pirate softball loss to McComb

McCOMB__The Bluffton High School softball team lost at non-league foe McComb 7-4 on Tuesday, April 13.
The Panthers scored two runs in both the first and second innings to build an early 4-0 lead.
Bluffton plated a run in the top of the fourth, but McComb matched it in the home fourth to maintain a 5-1 advantage.
The Pirates pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth inning to inch within 5-3. The Panthers tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth frames to rebuild the margin to 7-3.
Bluffton plated a run in the top of the seventh, but came up three short.
The Pirate girls dropped to 2-5 with the road defeat. McComb improved to 6-3 after the win.
Bluffton freshman second baseman Elana Navarro stroked a double and two singles to drive in one run and score one run. She also stole a base.
Freshman third sacker Evelyn Boyles contributed a double, single, a steal and one RBI.
Pirate catcher Karleigh Davis amassed two hits and one run batted in.
Senior left fielder Macy Schaadt singled, scored a run and drove one home. Right fielder Tala Gipson walked and scored a run.
Peyton Worcester pitched the first five innings, giving up 10 hits and six earned runs. She struck out three and walked two in the loss. She also singled and scored one run.
Haelee Rayle hurled the final inning. She gave up two hits and one run with one strikeout.
Winning pitcher Sebring drove in three runs with a double and a single. Scheff added three hits and three runs. Shaheen scored three runs and had two hits.
McComb out-hit Bluffton 12-9 and slugged four doubles to two two-baggers by the Pirates. The Panthers left eight runners on base, while Bluffton stranded seven.
The Pirate girls (1-0 NWC) host solid Delphos Jefferson (8-4, 1-0 NWC) in a conference game Thursday.
