Pirate girls track 2nd at L-B Invite

FINDLAY__The Bluffton High School girls track and field team finished a strong second out of 11 teams at the chilly Liberty-Benton Invitational on Saturday, May 2. The Pirate boys placed 6th among 10 teams.

GIRLS RESULTS

Columbus Grove won the girls team title with 150.5 points. The Pirate girls scored 105.5 points to come in ahead of third-place Oak Harbor (100.5). Host L-B ended up fourth (82).

Bluffton sophomore Maelee Miller captured first in the 400 meters in a time of 59.61. She also took first in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.08.

Pirate junior Nora Matthews won the 800 meters in 2:21.54. Sophomore Phoebe Edwards-Leeper ended up fourth in 2:34.61.

Junior Bekah Rehm captured third in the pole vault with a best leap of 10-0.

Senior Lizzy Suter finished third in the shot put with a top toss of 32-8.5.

Senior Aubrey Burkholder came in fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.53) and was fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.18).

The girls 4x200 relay team came in second (1:48.73) and the 4x400 quartet took fourth (4:21.09).

Junior Gracie Warren took fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.5).

BOYS RESULTS

On the boys side, the host Eagles won with 135.5 points. Grove took second at 101. The Bluffton boys came in sixth out of 10 teams with 58 points.

Pirate freshman Atticus Prothro finished third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:52.29.

The Pirate boys 4x200 relay team of Kizer Young, Kohen Anderson, Lleyton Miller and Tayte Giesige ended up second in 1:31.58.

Giesige captured second in the long jump with a best leap of 21-6.75.

Junior Owen Scoles finished third in the discus with a best toss of 146-9. He also came in fifth (44-9.5) in the shot put.

Freshman Kohen Anderson took fourth in the 400 meters in 53.08.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A correction was made to Protho's place in the 1600-meter run.
