Pirate softball loss vs. Spencerville

SPENCERVILLE__The visiting Bluffton High School softball team lost 11-1 to Spencerville in a Northwest Conference contest on Monday, May 11.
The Bearcats scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two scores in the second to build an early 5-0 lead.
Bluffton plated its lone run in the top of the sixth inning on a run-scoring single by Greta Myers. But Spencerville tallied five runs in the home half of the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule.
Bluffton fell to 8-11 overall and 4-3 in the NWC with the road defeat.
Spencerville improved to 6-12 and 3-4 in NWC play after the home victory.
Pirate pitcher Peyton Worcester hurled 5.7 innings to suffer the loss. She allowed 12 hits and five earned runs. She struck out 10 and walked only one.
The Pirates collected nine hits to 12 by the hosts. Three Bluffton errors led to six unearned runs. The Bearcats did not commit an error.
Shortstop Myers swatted three singles and had the lone RBI to pace the Pirate offense. She also stole a base.
Cam Fruchey smacked two singles and swiped a bag. Mummert singled and scored the Pirate run.
Pirate center fielder Jessa Swank and third sacker Evelyn Boyles each stroked a double. Tala Gipson added a single.
Bearcat Haley Hittle slapped three singles and scored two runs to help pace the Bearcats. Alexis Post hit two singles, scored twice and drove in two runs.
First baseman Delanee Roof slugged a solo home run. Gabriella King also knocked out two hits, scored twice and had one RBI. Chevrolet Johnson ripped a two-run double.
Post scattered nine hits over six innings to earn the win. She walked none and struck out five.
The Pirates left six runners on base, while Spencerville stranded four. The Bearcats stole five bases to two swipes by Bluffton.
