FROM BSC NEWSLETTER__On Thursday, October 1, St. Mary Catholic Church will be serving the Community Meal at the Bluffton Senior Center at 6 p.m.

Bluffton First Methodist Church will be serving on Thursday, October 15.

Meals are free and open to the public. A free-will offering is taken to help the Bluffton Food Pantry.

The Bluffton Fire and EMS departments recently took a test drive with the equipment commonly known as the "jaws of life" at OEM Auto Recyclers. With a joint interest in speed and safety, volunteer firefighters peeled away components of the vehicle that would help them extricate a hypothetical passenger.

Fire Chief Jon Kinn and EMS Chief Noah Babcock noted variables to be considered. What is the status of the patient? Is smoke present? Could the airbags unexpectedly deploy? Can seats be moved before the battery is disengaged?

There are numerous types of healthcare providers a patient may encounter when interacting with the healthcare system, and at the highest level of training and expertise are physicians. In the United States, there are two main routes to earning a doctoral degree in medicine and the professional title of “physician”: the Doctor of (allopathic) Medicine (MD) and the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). The primary difference between these pathways lies in their underlying philosophy. 

Hannah Chappell-Dick will be inducted in the Eastern Mennonite University Athletic Hall of Honor in a ceremony at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, during Homecoming 2026. 

MEDIA RELEASE__A last-minute road trip led Hannah Chappell-Dick ’16 to Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), where she became one of the most accomplished distance runners in program history.

A biology major with minors in exercise science and honors, Chappell-Dick wasn’t initially focused on Mennonite colleges. She joined a friend traveling to Honors Weekend and quickly found herself drawn to EMU.
