DEFIANCE__The Bluffton High School girls tennis team served up its season opener with a hard-fought 3-2 win at Defiance on Friday, August 7.

The close victory highlighted the debut of new Pirate head net coach Don Walters.

Hope Luginbill won 6-1, 6-0 at third singles to post the Pirate singles victory.

Bluffton swept both doubles matches to pull out the team win. Klinger and Bowling rallied from a set down to win at first doubles 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The Pirate duo of Bowers and Hoffman combined to roll to a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at second doubles.

2^nd Singles - Lily Delaney (D) d. Willow Angel (B)  4-6, 6-1, 6-1 

3^rd Singles - Hope Luginbill (B) d. Alia Floss (D)  6-1, 6-0 

1^st Doubles - Klinger/Bowling (B) d. Williams/Ortiz (D)  3-6, 6-4, 6-3

2^nd Doubles - Bowers/Hoffman (B) d. Brown/Smith (D)  6-0, 6-2

The Pirate netters are back in action Monday, Aug. 10 in the home opener vs. Celina.
