Pirate boys golf 7th at Fremont Invite
Gibson Meyer places 5th

FREMONT__The Bluffton High School boys golf team finished a solid seventh in the 19-team Fremont St. Joseph’s Central Catholic Invitational tournament at Sycamore Hills Golf Club on Friday, August 14.
The top seven teams all finished within a 14-shot range of each other in the tightly-bunched field.
New Riegel captured the team title with 320 strokes, two ahead of Delta (322). Sandusky Perkins finished a strong third at 325, followed closely by Willard (326), tournament host St. Joe’s CC (327) and Old Fort (332).
Bluffton finished two strokes (334) ahead of Tiffin Calvert (336) and four ahead of Clyde (338).
Pirate Gibson Meyer finished in a four-way tie for fifth in the large field of nearly 100 golfers. He shot an 18-hole round of 77 to end up five over par. It was the first time he has shot under 80 over 18 holes.
Caleb Fifer carded a solid round of 84 to finish second for Bluffton.
Ethan Fifer shot 86, while Landon Byers was one stroke behind him at 87 as the fourth Pirate scorer.
Coby Dailey contributed an 88.
The Pirates play under head coach Richard Streicher.
Keegan Clapp of Delta was tournament medalist. He fired an 18-hole score of 71 to win by three strokes. Clapp shot one under par for the tournament.
