Pirate golf 3rd in NWC quad

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School boys golf team finished a close third in a Northwest Conference quadrangular match at the Bluffton Golf Club course on Tuesday, September 1.

Gibson Meyer of Bluffton finished second in the field of 23 players by firing a round of 41. He came in one stroke behind match medalist Seth Brandt of Lincolnview, who carded a 40.

Pirate Coby Dailey ended up right behind Meyer with a 42. Ethan Fifer carded a 45. Owen Brauen posted a 50 as the fourth Pirate scorer.

Ethan Smith registered a 51 and Caleb Fifer shot 52.

Lincolnview won the closely bunched match with 171 strokes. Allen East came in second at 177, with Bluffton one stroke behind their local rivals at 178. Delphos Jefferson ended up a distant fourth at 210 shots.

The Pirates are 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the NWC after the match. The Lancers improved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in NWC play after winning the quadrangular.

AE improved to 8-2 and 5-2 in the NWC with their result. Delphos Jeff fell to 1-9 and 1-5 in league play after the losses. 

The Mustangs beat the Pirates by one shot a day after Bluffton nipped AE by one stroke.

Bluffton plays NWC foe Crestview (1-6, 1-3 NWC), AE and Lincolnview at Hickory Sticks Golf Club in Van Wert on Tuesday, September 8.
