MEDIA RELEASE__Members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will observe the annual Shipwreck Remembrance on Sunday, September 20. The services, at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m., will give praise to the Lord for saving the lives of passengers on the “Famous Dove” when it was shipwrecked off the east coast of the United States on September 17, 1831. 

During a terrible storm, the passengers prayed and sang hymns. The next morning, they saw that they were just off the coast of Virginia. They left the wrecked ship and safely reached land. They promised to observe September 17 in thanks to God, to the third and fourth generations, this being the 195th year. Many of the passengers coming from Germany were the founders of Trinity and many fifth through seventh generation descendants are members today. 

The account of the Shipwreck will be read during the service. Pastor Robert Krueger, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay, will deliver the message on Jonah chapter 4 and how God delivered Jonah from a storm at sea so that he could proclaim God's Word. Trinity's Staff Minister Jeff Falck will be Liturgist. Hymns will include, "If God Himself Be For Me," " Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor," " Eternal Father, Strong to Save" and "Not Unto Us." The Choir will sing "Thy Word." Sunday School and Bible Classes for all ages will begin at 9:20 a.m.
