How many times did you mow your yard in September? Probably more often than you thought you might. That's because it rained 5.36 inches during September, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer. The normal average September rainfall is 2.95 inches.

Fifteen of September's 30 days had rain, or a trace of rain reported.

Otherwise, it was a "normal" September. The average temperature for the month was 63.5 degrees. The normal average September temperature was 63.7 degrees.

Jan Basinger, Bluffton EMS chief, provided The Icon with the September call list. EMS had 39 calls during the month.

Kalida girls stopped Bluffton 5-0 on Sept. 29 at Kalida.

 Bluffton defense came alive in the second half holding Kalida to only 1 goal in the second half. The first half Kalida dominated, in the first fifteen minutes they scored 4 goals.

Finding themselves down 27-7 win the third quarter at Allen East, Bluffton put together two comebacks that may very well end up being the biggest moments of the season.

Bluffton put up 270 yards to Allen East’s 350 total, but the only real numbers that matter are the point totals 35-33.

The first quarter was quiet offensively as Allen East scored first with a 15-yard TD toss.
Mitchell Ault, getting his first start of the season hit Drake Luginbuhl on a 9-yard pass to even it up at 7 in the second quarter.

Lester F. Elliott, 92, of Bluffton, died at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28, 2012, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. 

He was born Feb. 8, 1920 in Sidney, Ohio, to Ferris O. and Margaret B. (Rhodehamel) Elliott. On June 29, 1974 he married Florence May Tabner and she survives.

Mr. Elliott had retired from Leroy Dresser, Sidney, as a tool and die maker. He was a member of the English Lutheran Church, Bluffton. He was a World War II Army veteran, lifetime member of VFW Post #1275, lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Bluffton.
