Bluffton University's 14th annual alumni and friends golf scramble on July 16 raised more than $8,000 for university athletics through TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Bluffton.

Harrod's Colonial Golfers Club hosted the event, which drew 122 golfers from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Florida.

The winners of the scramble received monetary prizes. Richard Bindernagel '79 of Middlebury Heights, OH teamed with Dennis Thompson '78 (Elida, Ohio), James Frisk '78 (Wooster, Ohio) and Jeffrey Deyling '78 (Parma, Ohio) all took home first-place honors.

What year did you graduate from Bluffton High School?

I graduated in the year 2000. Our whole class thought it was special to graduate in 2000.

Growing up in a small town, was it difficult to adjust to living in a city?

Ned Althaus

Larry Ned Althaus, 72, of Bluffton died at 5:40 p.m. July 20, 2011 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born Dec. 7, 1938 in Bluffton to Henry and Gertrude Diller Althaus. On Dec. 13, 1958 he married Patricia Drury and she survives.

The Bluffton Cattle Club and the Beaverdam Bunch 4-H Clubs are selling chicken barbecue tickets. The barbecue will be served at the Bluffton Middle School cafetorium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, July 24.

Both eat-in or carry-out is available. Tickets are $7.50 each call 419-358-0195. The proceeds will help support the Junior Fair livestock auction.

M.O.P.S. (Mothers of Preschoolers) will hold a free lunch with activities for children from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, July 29, at the Buckeye in Bluffton.

The event is for any mothers of preschoolers, infants through kindergarten.

"We are trying to get the word out about M.O.P.S. and educate people to what we are all about and hopefully help more mothers of young children find a away to connect with others in the same stage of life," said Jami Rehm of the group.
