The following public meetings have been scheduled by the Village of Bluffton:

  • Joint Safety Services & Finance Committee at noon

Wednesday, August 31

  • Bluffton Beyond Tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Monday, September 12

  • Village Council at 7:00 p.m.

All meetings are at the Town Hall, 154 N. Main St. unless otherwise noted.

Stay tuned for the Icon's report on the August 20 Vine Street block party, which was delayed by rain but provided art, activities including a dunk tank, tarot card readings, face painting mini golf and--most importantly--music and dancing with two DJs, John Humphrey and Stacey "Hotwaxx" Hale.

Registration deadlines are approaching for two youth volleyball programs at Bluffton Family Recreation, 215 Snider Road.

3rd & 4th Grade Volleyball - DEADLINE August 24

  • Practice once a week with games Saturday mornings. T-shirt included.
  • Saturdays, Sept. 10-Oct. 8

  • House team: $30/Member, $60/Non-Member

  • School Teams: $300/Team

5th & 6th Grade Volleyball - DEADLINE August 31

The 17th annual Bluffton Fall Festival, with many family-oriented activities, will take place throughout the community on Saturday, Sept. 24, with most activities  occurring between 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

The Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost its season opener 3-1 at Berlin Hiland Saturday afternoon, August 20.

Nolan Hoffman netted the lone Pirate goal. Bluffton got off 10 shots, while Hiland mustered 11 shots.

Kyle Basil was credited with five saves in goal for Bluffton. The Hiland keeper made three stops.

The Pirates (0-1) face Botkins in the semifinals of the Elida kick-off tournament Thursday, August 25 at 5 p.m. The third-place and finals match will be Aug. 27 at Elida.

Bluffton outlasted visiting Kalida in a five-set volleyball battle late Saturday morning, August 20, to capture its season opener.

The Lady Pirates triumphed over the Wildcat girls by a score of 25-15, 22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10.

The Pirate junior varsity also won in straight sets, 2-0.

Bluffton (1-0) plays at Riverdale Monday, August 22. The Pirate girls then visit Pandora-Gilboa Wednesday, Aug. 24
