April is National Poetry Month, April 22 is Earth Day and April 17 is International Haiku Poetry Day. In celebration of all three, The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve and Conservation Farm is offering the annual "Haiku Hike" on Saturday, April 23, from 1 to 2 p.m.
"We will walk the trails, look for wildlife and—you guessed it—try our hands at writing haikus about nature in Spring," said Anne Coburn-Griffis. "Last year we wrote seven in an hour."
The surging Bluffton High School varsity softball team won its fifth straight game by decisively beating host Leipsic 7-1 on Charlie Bennettt Field Thursday evening, April 21.
The Pirate girls plated single runs in each of the second and third frames. Bluffton extended its lead to 5-0 with a three-run fifth.
The visitors tacked on two insurance runs in their seventh and last at bat.
Leipsic plated its lone run in the home sixth on a solo home run by losing pitcher Jocelyn Hermiller.
The Bluffton Sportsmen's Club is inviting anglers to try their skill and luck at the 2022 Bluffton Fishing Derby, which will be held from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. on May 1 at Buckeye Lake, located off North Main between Elm St. and Snider Rd.
This year's #1 fish has been named "BIG TOM" for Tom Diller. The #1 tagged trout jackpot is already worth $2500.00. It will be worth more on Derby day: one half of the jackpot plus an additional $1,000.00, if caught during derby hours.
April is Community Banking Month and on Friday, April 29, Citizens National Bank will be highlighting local businesses with its annual gift basket giveaway and Community Shred Day. Refreshments will be served at each branch, including the 102 S. Main, Bluffton location.
Each CNB office is giving away a gift basket including local items from each of our branch communities. Anyone who visits a branch during the month of April may enter to win the Community gift baskets valued at more than $150 each.
At 7 p.m. on April 29, a cast of 29 students in grades 1-8 will take the stage with two professional actors in Prairie Fire Children's Theatre's original musical production of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" at Trinity Lutheran School, 105 Allen Street, Jenera.
Two professional actors, Sam and Emma, will take the roles of The Huntsman and The Evil Queen.
