David King, director of athletics, Eastern Mennonite University, will present the Forum, “Values-based Athletics in a Social Media World,” at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Yoder Recital Hall.

King, the author of the book “Overplayed,” will highlight the purpose of intercollegiate athletics to provide opportunities for players, coaches, spectators and the community to learn about themselves, the world and faith.

As the director of athletics, King oversees the 17 intercollegiate sports programs at EMU, providing overall leadership, advocacy and strategic planning.

Marathana Prothro, assistant professor of communication at Bluffton University, will present the Colloquium, “Inside Job: An Integrated Approach to Personal Branding,” at 4 p.m. on Feb. 21 in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.

Prothro, who received a Bluffton University Research Center Grant to study and develop a book around this topic, says her research has led her a different direction than expected. She will expand upon and share her realizations and outcomes during Colloquium on Feb. 21.  

Poet George Kalamaras will give a public reading at 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Reading Room of Bluffton University’s Musselman Library.

Kalamaras is the author of “That Moment of Wept,” as well as 16 other books of poetry and a book of scholarship. His awards include the New Michigan Press Prize/DIAGRAM Chapbook Award and the Elixir Press Poetry Prize. Additionally, Kalamaras received an Indo-U.S. Advanced Research Fellowship in 1994, and has twice received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Indiana Art Commission.

Featuring Mennonite migrations; visiting Switzerland, France, Germany, The Netherlands

Bluffton University President Jane Wood and Dr. Gerald Mast, professor of communication, will host a tour of Europe Sept. 26-Oct. 7, 2020.

The experience will feature tours of significant Mennonite heritage sites and visits to Zurich and Bern, Switzerland; Strasbourg, France; Cologne, Germany; and Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The identify of J. Denny and Jenny Beaver will be revealed on Saturday. The revealing will take place between the men's and women's basketball games at the Sommer Center. Watch the video below for more details.

A panel of Bluffton University alumni currently working in corporate roles will share “Life After Graduation: What They Don’t Tell You About Working in the Real World” during Bluffton University’s Alumni Forum at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Held in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall, the discussion will be moderated by Dr. LaShonda Gurley, director of the Center for Career and Vocation at Bluffton University.
