Authors Andrew Hudgins and Erin McGraw answered questions, inspired minds and offered practical advice for young people who are serious about pursuing writing as a profession during Bluffton University’s 34th annual English Festival held on campus.
Advice included: “If you wait to be inspired you’ll die waiting,” from Hudgins and, “Writing something stupid is better than writing nothing. Get going and make it better later,” from McGraw.
BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior Kaycee Rowe (Harrod/Allen East) has been named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week after leading the Beavers to a pair of non-conference wins sandwiched around Thanksgiving. It marks the second straight HCAC Player of the Week to open the season for Bluffton following Macey Sheerer (Bucyrus) who took home that honor after leading the Beavers to a win over #7 Ohio Northern last week!
Paula Unrau, instructor of theatre and English, will present the colloquium, "Conversations in Poetry: Duende, Corn, Wheat and Cross-Pollination" on Friday, Dec. 1.
Along with Dr. Jeff Gundy and others, Unrau will explore the “conversations” that occurred, pretty much by accident, when three very nontraditional students showed up for Dr. Gundy’s poetry class. Though not a scientific study of the effects of nontraditional students in the classroom (and certainly not reproducible), the results were, in Unrau’s words, “pretty cool.”
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's basketball team sandwiched wins around a short Thanksgiving break as the Beavers downed Kalamazoo College 86-70 on Saturday, Nov. 25, after knocking off Heidelberg Tuesday night in the Sommer Center. Bluffton improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Hornets stayed winless at 0-2.
