Bluffton University's annual Pops Concert, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Founders Hall, will offer a mix of music ranging from Irving Berlin to Billy Joel and Burt Bacharach. The concert is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted for program costs, with any excess funds going toward music scholarships.

The evening will begin with jazz-including Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band"-from the university's Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Adam Schattschneider, professor of music.

Saturday, April 7th was a day of speed and strength as the Bluffton men's and women's track and field team took advantage of the warm weather and still breeze. Competing at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University, the track and field team set a combined 27 personal records.

Standing out for Bluffton were three freshmen, Jenna Strauss (Bridgeport), Eric Dameron (Galion), and Rob Cook (Convoy/Crestview), as they each had three personal bests for the day.

Jane Kurtz inherited a love of reading from her parents and grandparents, and she has passed it on, not only to her children-and now grandchildren-but also to people she doesn't even know.

Kurtz, a writer, has done it through her children's books, many of them set in Ethiopia, where she grew up. She has also shared her passion through Ethiopia Reads, a nonprofit effort to get books to, and create libraries in, the East African nation.

A limited number of tickets remain for "Mark Nizer 3-D," the final performance in the 2011-12 Bluffton University Artist Series, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Nizer makes the impossible possible while incorporating 3-D technology into a live show that combines world-class juggling, comedy, movement and music. Interactive video creates lasers jumping out over the audience, robots performing onstage and neon balls playing live music while creating a unique 3-D world that changes with every note.
