A book signing featuring Peggy Erhart, author of "Through My Grandmother’s Eyes" will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Book ReViews, Main St., Bluffton.
Erhart's book tells the life of her grandmother beginning with her wedding in 1896. Events are viewed through the vantage points of historical events and societal norms of the eras covering the late1800s through 1947. Emphasis is placed on the family’s German Catholic heritage common throughout the area and time.
It's the hottest thing in Bluffton's coldest month. It's Bluffton Elementary PTO Bakery Bingo and its Saturday, Jan. 31.
This year's event, open to the public, is from 6 to 8 p.m. in the middle school cafetorium. Doors open at 5 p.m.
A concession stand is available, which offers everything from chicken sandwiches, pretzels with cheese, and other items, including Luke's Pizza and Common Grounds coffee.
Bingo cards are 12 for $1. Winners have your choice of any donated baked goods.
BFR Sports and Fitness invites Icon viewers to this winter’s Keeping Active Kick-off from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, according to Carole Enneking.

Keeping Active includes six weeks of free use of the BFR indoor track, free attendance to group fitness classes, free access to recreational activities and free participation in learning session on exercise and nutrition as scheduled.
Diem Lafortune, a Toronto musician, will perform in concert at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, at First Mennonite Church, in a Bluffton Town Hall Concert Series, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick.
LaFortune is a 2013 Canadian Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year nominee by the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
According to Chappell-Dick, “Her album Beauty and Hard Times is a varied collection including Acadian fiddle tunes, Celtic, prairie Cree drums, and the accordion and strings-fuelled tunes of the Jews and Romany in Eastern Europe.”
The popular painting programs will continue this winter through BFR Sports & Fitness. Paint & Sip programs are planned for Sunday, Feb. 8 (1:30-4:30 p.m.), Thursday, March 12 (6-9 p.m.) and Thursday, April 9 (6-9 p.m.).
Each event includes instruction from Marilyn Reed of Marilyn’s Artistry, Ada, all art supplies, appetizers and one glass of a specialty, wine beverage.
The February project is a 16x20 floral design in acrylic. The March project will include glass painting on two wineglasses and a decorative caddy. Plans for April include painting on slate.
Book ReViews, 123 S. Main St., Bluffton, will host Bluffton University English professor, Susan Carpenter, for book signing and reading from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17.
Dr. Christina Walton, Book ReViews manager, said that the event is open to the public.
