Get your horns, drums, flags and batons out and start practicing. Former Bluffton High School marching band members are invited to join the 2010-2011 Bluffton High School marching band for the pre-game show on Friday, Sept. 3.
This includes horns, woodwinds, percussion, flags and majorettes. Those who are able are welcome to march down from the high school to the field with the band prior to the game.
The Bluffton Fire Department will hold a pulled-pork barbecue from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27, at the fire station, 402 N. Main St. The menu consists of a pulled-pork sandwich, baked beans and cole slaw. Tickets are $6 each.
A drive-thru will be provided on Main Street in front of the fire station or persons may dine in. Ticket sare available from any fireman or at the door.
All proceeds from the barbecue will help fund training and equipment so that the fire department can continue to provide excellent service.
The Inn at Ohio Northern University offers Thursday Tea at the Inn every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Inn. The garden courtyard is open for seating (weather permitting).
Join The Inn on Aug. 26 for Thursday Tea at the Inn featuring Strawberry Bliss Tea accompanied by New Zealand Pavlova, along with a selection of Chef's tea sandwiches, scones, pastries, tarts and petitefours. Champagne is also available.
The next Bluffton Red Cross blood drive is in September. The drive will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, in Burcky Gym at Bluffton University E-mailemail [email protected] to schedule a blood donation appointment.
Dancers' Elite dance studio, operated by Deb Garlock, will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the studio located at 9364 N. Dixie Highway, Bluffton.
Garlock said that classes start on Sept. 13. This year classes will be offered in ballet, tap, jazz, gymnastics, toddler movement and adult. Persons wanting more information may contact Garlock at 419-358-0900.
She said that persons who sign up for classes who mention that they read the open house article in The Icon receive 10 percent off their first month's tuition.
Oscar Velasquez of Bluffton will perform at the Hillside Winery, Gilboa, on Saturday, Aug. 21. The afternoon includes art, music, food and wine tasting. Velasquez will perform from 3 to 4 p.m. The actual event will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Food is catered by Donna and Merle Smith. Several other area arts will perform during the event.
