You never heard this one...these two guys walk into an outdoor arts and crafts show.

Actually, the very day before the Bluffton arts and crafts show, the director of the chamber gets a frantic e-mail. It's from a crafter who says that she's never received confirmation of her registration in the "Bluffton" arts and crafts show.

The chamber director looks through all the registrations and can't find the person's information. He calls the crafts show director. Same thing. No information.

So...Sunday was Mother's Day. I don't remember much about Mother's Day when I was little. I don't think we ever fixed her breakfast in bed or took her out for dinner. The truth is, she probably cooked for us on those days, but I could be wrong. You'd have to ask her.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that most of us don't come to really appreciate our moms until later in life when we finally realize what all they taught us.

Editor's note: Rachel Stutzman Heiks is offering yoga classes for 4- to 6-year-olds at the Bluffton Public Library. The second night of classes will be held at 6:30 and 7 p.m. on Monday, May 14.

Matthew Bowden

Better order your World Series tickets for 2024 now. Matthew Bowden might be on the mound.

Matthew pitched a no-hitter against Columbus Grove on May 5. The young pitcher is on the 7th grade Bluffton Diamond Sports team.

He faced 15 hitters and struck out 11 of them. Matthew is the son of Dan and Melinda Bowden.

Hey bicycle riders. Interested in a "group ride"? According to Raymond and Liz Harner of CG Pro Bikes, Columbus Grove, two group rides are planned next week.

Here's the plan:

Monday, May 14, at 6 p.m. the group ride departs from the CG Pro Bikes parking lot, and all are welcome. All ages and skill levels. These are 'No Drop' rides, meaning no one gets left behind. The group generally stays in a pack.

And on Thursday, May 17, at 6 p.m. the group ride from the bike shop will be a "ladies only" ride.

Katie Hohenbrink with her winning pie

When you see Katie Hohenbrink ask her for a piece of her banana pecan pie. It took the cake, so to speak, the April 30 Richland Manor pie baking contest, according to Barry Schneck.

"Nearly 20 pies were entered, said Schneck. "We are very thankful for all those that entered and made the pies as it was great fun and fellowship with the community staff and residents."

Judges were Mary Hackworth from Ada, Michael Richards, superintendent of Allen East schools and Tracey Jordan, Richland Manor staff member.
