To the 1950 OSU-Michigan snow bowl football game 70 years ago about this time of year

There is no Ohio State-Michigan football game this year. So, for Buckeye fans the Icon provides this Bluffton account of the famous 1950 snow bowl game. The is an abridged version of the story, published in greater detail in "Bluffton Anthology, Essays on a small Ohio town," collected by Fred Steiner. The book is available from the author and in several downtown businessees.

"Once in the fifth grade I got my card taken down for hitting Nick Houshower in the face with the playground tetherball when he wasn't playing by the rules. I had to stay after school and write a paper about how hitting him made me feel and what I learned. Sorry, Nick."
- Jessica Edmiston

"All these years later, I still remember the dread I felt before taking the quarry test. This wasn't a written exam, and it had nothing to do with school. It was a rite of passage for any Bluffton kid who wanted to earn the right to swim in the Buckeye."

MORE ABOUT THE BOOK

Ruth Naylor, on being the BHS yearbook advisor:
"I was the Buccaneer yearbook advisor. Matt Ziessler, a senior and our staff artist in 1981, created some lovely artwork for the interior of the book and also designed the cover which features two large foaming waves on a sea of blue.

"If you look very closely at the white foam, you can see the words “Pink Floyd,” the name of a popular singing group that some but certainly not everyone appreciated in the Eighties.
