Diabetes Alert Day planned at BFR on March 26

BFR Sports & Fitness will partner with the American Diabetes Association for the annual Diabetes Alert Day on Monday, March 26, according to Carole Enneking, direcector.

Held every fourth Tuesday in March, the Alert Day is a one-day, “wake-up call” asking the American public to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

Elizabeth Gratzer, 98, was born in Hamburg Germany

Elisabeth Gratzer, 98, died at 2:15 p.m. March 20, 2013 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born June 26, 1914 in Hamburg, Germany, to the late Franz and Elisabeth (Riess) Andres.

She retired as an auditor for a department store in Hamburg, Germany, prior to coming to the United States. She became an American Citizen in 2000. She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton.

Although I know the answer to this question, what year did you graduate from Bluffton High School, Alan?

1968.

You worked in Bluffton for several years. Tell us about that? 

I worked with my dad, Wayne Amstutz in the insurance business for 10 years and owned the Brass Buckle for two years.

When did you move to Dublin?

I began working in Columbus in April 1985 and the family moved in August 1985. At that time Dublin was a little larger than Bluffton.

Mustard Seed Cafe opens Friday morning in historic railroad depot

Bluffton has a new place to eat for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Mustard Seed Café officially opens on Friday morning, March 22, in a one-time railroad depot at 560 N. Main St.

Dick and Jayne McGarrity own the restaurant, with Rhonda Moor as manager and cook.

In a conversation with the three, The Icon learned that Mustard Seed’s menu ranges from “mostly traditional fare to truly unique.”

“We have salads for breakfast, with hash browns, and sausage and eggs, for example,” said Moor. “We want to consider all tastes. There’s something here for everyone.”
