After taking spring Noetic Math Challenge

Seventeen Blufton sixth graders and nine seventh graders took the spring Noetic Math Challenge in April, according to Dina Tadena, sixth and seventh grade math teacher.

There were 34,055 students who took the challenge from 47 states and  776 schools.

The following Bluffton students received national honorable mention, which means they scored in the top 50% of all of the students. Each grade had a team winner, based on the highest score from those that took the test.

Icon viewers respond with many comments about Dr. Howard Shelly

Dr. Howard Shelly, retired Bluffton general practitioner died May 4, 2019. The response to his obituary was immediate.

As of May 7 on the The Icon’s Facebook post, over 50 persons offered comments about him.  As of May 7, his Facebook post had over 13,000 reaches.

Rick Skilliter and William Gaiffe have Wall of Honor plaques

A new Bluffton tradition was established last week, recognizing retired Bluffton police officers.

Two retired Bluffton police chiefs are the first inductees to a Wall of Honor, recognizing the officers. Those inducted this year are Rick Skilliter and the late William Gaiffe.

The May 15 ceremony, took place at the newly-established wall on the second floor lobby of the police department in the town hall.

Rhodes State College, Lima, announces its dean’s list for the spring semester. 

To be eligible for this full-time Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.5 grade point average or higher.

Bluffton's first post office was started in 1837 with a Daniel Gobel as postmaster. Mr. Gobel received a salary of fifteen dollars a year and mail was distributed at the post office once a month.
