The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club presented its annual "Service to Humanity" Scholarship Awards at the Bluffton High School 32nd annual awards program on May 16, according to Duane Bollenbacher of the club.
The club provided two $750 scholarships. Winners were seniors Hanne` Burkholder (left) and Kaitlin Thompson (right), each of whom was chosen by virtue of her past, current, and expected future commitment to serving others.
Hanne` is the daughter of Steve and Laurel Burkholder and plans to study speech pathology at Kent State University.

Isaac Schumacher of Bluffton, a sophomore graphic design major at Bluffton University, loves to sketch and draw.
"When I was a kid, I liked to do little cartoons," he said. "Even though I never believed it would become an actual career, it has always been a passion of mine."
Little did he know that his talents are helping students in classrooms all over Ohio this spring.
Like the night of the Oscars, Bluffton High School held its annual academic awards program on May 16. Although it was not an "the envelope, please" evening, it was filled with recognizing students with academic achievements during 2011-12.

It was tea time at Maple Crest on May 15. Make that "traditional tea time." Amelia Stauffer and Marge Lafolette, who tea experts talked about how tea plays an important part of many cultures during an afternoon program in the Patio Room.
Refreshments includes spinach pinwheels, fresh fruit cups, lemon curd tarts and tea and vanilla chai.

Cozadd was among 20 high school students from across Ohio who recently put their knowledge of automobiles to the test as they competed in the 63rd annual Ford/AAA Auto Skills State Competition at Owens Community College.
The top teams were awarded scholarships and prizes with the championship team also advancing to the National Finals at the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich., June 10-12.
Jake Dowling, a junior attending the University of Findlay, is an Icon feature writer intern this summer. Dowling, a journalism/public relations major, is a reporter and columnist for the University of Findlay campus newspaper The Pulse. He is also a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America.
His first stories on The Icon covered the Fortman Insurance Medicare Seminar, the Bluffton Public Library summer reading program and BFR's tee-ball program. The Findlay native will write for The Icon until August.
