Bluffton Bike and Pedestrian Pathway Board's goal is simple but ambitious

Bike and walking trails are becoming more and more popular in northwestern Ohio. Area trails range from as short as 4 miles all the way to 76 miles in length. Thanks to the continuing efforts of the Bluffton Bike and Pedestrian Pathway Board, Bluffton may soon join the list of communities boasting these recreational gems.

Bluffton's vision for a bike and walking trail is relatively new. The committee's goal is simple, yet ambitious: Encircle Bluffton with a pedestrian and bike pathway.

Friday recycling and refuse pickup on Saturday this week

Due to the Monday, May 30, holiday, recycling and refuse pick up is one day late this week. That means that Friday customers will have their recycling and refuse picked up on Saturday, June 4, according to the village office.

The next time recycling and refuse pick up will be one day delayed will be the week of Fourth of July.

Three swim lesson sessions planned this summer

This summer swimming lesson schedule at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool has been released by the village.

All sessions are eight day sessions, running Monday through Thursday, with Friday reserved for a make-up day.

11:30-12:00 Levels 4-6
5:00-5:30pm Levels 1-6

Session 2:
July 11- July 22

We received 7.42 inches of rain in May; normal is 3.67 inches

May was a wet one, but you already knew that. According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, the normal average precipitation for May is 3.67 inches. May of 2011 recorded 7.42 inches of precipitation.

Otherwise, averages were near normal. The average May temperature was 61.9 degrees. The normal average is 60.2 degrees.

May's high temperature was 91 on May 31. The low was 37 on May 5. Of the 31 days in day rain was recorded on every day except for five.

Mosquito spraying in June

Mosquito spraying is planned soon for Bluffton.

Spraying will occur on May 31, June 2, June 7, and June 9, starting at dusk. Starting the week of June 13, spraying will be done on Wednesdays, weather permitting, according to village officials.

Swimming pool opens Friday

Summer official begins in Bluffton at 1 p.m. on Friday. That's when the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool opens.

Pool hours are 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. daily. The pool's telephone number is 419-358-6991.
