Bowling leagues are forming now at Southgate Lanes, Bluffton, for the 2010-11 season, according to Derek Dukes. Openings are available for men's leagues, women's leagues and teams. Contact the bowling alley for availability. Dukes said that leagues start soon.
Opening bowling's first week is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-12. Call or stop in Southgate for lane availability.
Southgate, which enters its 51st year in business, offers complete bowling alley rentals, birthday party packages and a restaurant-bar.
In addition to annexation, Bluffton council dealt with other issues on Aug. 23. Trick-or-treat night was set from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28. Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, told council that he has already had inquiries on the date.
The Bluffton Tree Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26. On the agenda is the 2010 Western Lake Erie Basin Emerald Ash Borer Grant, which the village has received. In addition, the commission will discuss fall 2010 tree planting projects.

Several projects are underway this week in the Bluffton Hospital construction project.
Workers are beginning to erect the structural framing of the two-story addition, which includes the new emergency department and other services.
Workers are also finishing the roof for the new operating room area located on the corner of Garau Street and Harmon Road, as well as laying format for new walls and hanging HVAC duct work in this area.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Allen County invite adults, college and high school students to consider volunteering as a mentor to youth this school year, according to John Neville, director of the program.
Several opportunities are available to mentor youth ages 6 to 14 (firstthrough eighth grade). Big Brothers Big Sisters offers a program in the Bluffton schools.
"Our program works around the mentor's schedule," said Neville. "We matchmentors with children whose interests are similar. Men are matched with boys. Women are matched with girls."
