VOLLEYBALL WIN AT KENYON
GAMBIER, Ohio–The Bluffton University women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win on the road at Kenyon College on Sept. 7. The Beavers improved to 4-1 on the season following their fourth straight win, while the Owls fell to 0-5.
The Bluffton High School boys soccer squad tied visiting Beavercreek 1-1 Wednesday evening, September 7.
The Pirate record moved to 1-4-1 with the non-league tie.
Alek Davis scored first for Bluffton at the 29:08 mark of the first half. It was the only shot the Pirates were able to get off the entire match, and he made it count.
Beavercreek netted the equalizer with just 4:48 remaining to play.
Pirate keeper Kyle Basil made seven stops in goal. Beavercreek got 12 shots off.
The Bluffton High School girls tennis team defeated visiting Elida 4-1 Wednesday evening. The decisive victory lifted the Pirate dual record to 2-6 this fall.
Junior Brooke Camper of Bluffton won in straight sets at first singles by a 7-5, 6-0 count over Bulldog senior Ava Long.
Sophomore Rory Youngpeter won at second singles over freshman Ellen Troyer 6-4, 6-2.
Sophomore Ava McComey won at third singles 6-1, 6-1 over senior Cheyenne Pack.
Online and In-School Education Boosting Number of New OHSAA Officials
COLUMBUS–Facing a growing shortage of interscholastic sports officials across Ohio, the Ohio High School Athletic Association has moved all classroom instruction for new officials to the convenient virtual platform RefPrep and is also asking member schools to offer the online officiating curriculum during the school day for students to begin the process of becoming a licensed official. A number of schools across Ohio have already begun offering the RefPrep class.
The Pirate golf team finished second in a four-team Northwest Conference match Tuesday at the Bluffton Golf Course. Lincolnview won with 168 strokes, followed by Bluffton (175), Delphos Jefferson (179) and Ada (232).
Isaac Gallmeier was match medalist with with a one-under par score of 35. Pirate Jaden Coonfare was second with a 37.
Bluffton improved to 18-4 overall and 8-3 in the NWC with the results.
