Playing at home, the Bluffton High School boys basketball team defeated Columbus Grove 67-52 with a big second half in a Northwest Conference clash Friday night, February 3.

The Pirates outscored Grove 40-23 after intermission to win going away.

Bluffton led 14-8 after one period, but trailed 29-27 at intermission. The hosts built a 43-39 lead after three quarters with a 16-10 period as Wade Ginther netted 10 big markers.

With a share of the Blanchard Valley Conference title on the line, the Pandora-Gilboa boys basketball team faced off against Liberty-Benton Friday night Feb. 3. A third quarter scoring drought stalled the Rockets and P-G dropped the highly anticipated match-up, 48-43.

The Bluffton High School girls basketball team lost 50-34 at rival Columbus Grove in a Northwest Conference bout Thursday evening.

Bluffton dropped to 12-8 overall and 1-6 in the NWC with the defeat. The Grove girls improved to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in the NWC following the victory.

Women's Basketball

The Bluffton University women's basketball team fell short against the Mount St. Joseph Lions, 62-58, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023. The Beavers fell to 12-8 overall and 7-7 in the conference. The Lions improved their overall record to 12-8 with a 9-4 mark in the HCAC.

The Bluffton wrestling team hosted a triangular dual match Tuesday night, January 31.

Mohawk beat Bluffton 57-14, and the Pirates lost 34-9 to Upper Sandusky.

Mohawk also defeated US 47-23 to sweep the event.

The Pirates led early vs. Mohawk after two forfeit wins and a pin by Jaiden Smith at 126 lbs. But the visitors took the last 10 matches with seven forfeits, two pins and a decision to win.

Against the Rams, Bluffton won five bouts by forfeit. Pirate senior Isaiah Mikesell won his match over Compton at 165 lbs.

The Pandora-Gilboa Rockets welcomed Putnam County League rival Columbus Grove to the Launch Pad for a mid-week match-up for State Route 12 bragging rights. The Rockets found themselves down ten points late in the third quarter, but battled all the way back, to sneak away with a hard fought 46-43 PCL win.
